About Gerda Thorn

Gerda (born October 21, 1969) studied with Jos Zwaanenburg and Harrie Starreveld, and after her final exam (1998), she continued her studies with Koos Verheul.

She co-authored the pedagogical curriculum with her husband, Joris Nassenstein, and graduated cum laude. Her secondary subject was piano.

Even during her studies, Gerda was already substituting at various music schools across the Netherlands. In 1999, she began teaching at the Leusden Music School, where she worked for 10 years. When the school was closed due to cultural budget cuts, she started her own private teaching studio in Amsterdam South.

Now, Gerda has been teaching flute for nearly 35 years, with great passion, to students ranging in age from 2.5 to 80 years.

In February 2025, her Amsterdam flute studio celebrates its 16th anniversary.
